but I still can not fathom such a barbaric thing out....
sorry if you are a JW btw, perhaps you could enlighten me?

can someone please explain to me just why Jehovah's Witnesses would refuse a transfusion? (15:20 on Sun 30/May/10)
My friend is standing at the bedside of her critically ill Dad who has joined the JWs with all of the family, my friend is not in the religion, they have given him a matter of hours to live, yet he...has categorically refused a transfusion when he briefly came round, he has signed a disclaimer before the op, I am so sad for my friend who is very upset and crying when she has just rang me, hell! what do you say to someone in here situation?
I just would like someone to come on and give a positive to all this

He has chosen in effect to commit suicide in the presence of his family. His choice.
IMO that smacks of being a zealot as JW's only abide by that ethos through choice.
Hi Bobbi, Are you ok?

He'd be better off in a hospice where he could die in peace if that's what he wants - not being horrid but as others have said, his hospital bed is probably badly needed by someone who could be treated. I have huge respect for the hospice movement and all that they do for patient and families.

I am in absolute agreement boxy and EDDIE
I think that we have to differentiate whether or not the blood is given in a curative act ( to save the patient's life) or whether it is to be given in a palliative way (to prolong an incurable disorder)

In the first case, I would certainly give blood against the wishes of the patient and if sued, then I would rely upon the decision of the courts.

In this case it would appear that the blood has been offered not in a curative sense but in a palliative one and in which case i would respect the wishes of the patient.
Medical intervention has been known,
Its also been know for JW;s to have tranfusions.
Its down to how brainwashed you are by them
I seem to remember reading not long ago that JWs can get around this misinterpretation, have a transfusion (possibly) not all the blood product...and not risk God's or their fellow JWs wrath.
Mention it to your friend Bobbie. This is such a sad ...and frustrating situation.

bobbi..from what you have described your friends Dad has had a cancer of the bladder, treated again and again over many years and finally due to recurrence he has had his bladder removed and his and the ureters transplanted into his small bowel....a living hell.

If I was in his position, I would also refuse transfusion and I am not a JW.
