Hi All,
My 9 1/2 year old Springer has a tumour in her mouth. Fortunately it is not cancerous and we have been told to monitor it for the moment. Just praying it does not get any worse as the treatment options are just awful. Does anyone know of any possible natural alternatives we can try?
She is the most beautiful and precious dog and am desparate to help her.
Thx.

Sorry to hear about your dog and I can imagine just how desperate you are to help her. There are many sites and ads for miracle cures but I don't know any natural remedies that are proven to help. I just wanted to wish you and pooch well and to say 'be careful' of a lot of the false claims you may come across.
I'm a bit busy atm, will pop back tomorrow with the name of some drugs that may help. Don't have time to look them up right now....will pop back tomorrow morning...promise

There were some studies done on Spirulina (wild blue/green algae) recently, in Southern Indian. In that location, oral tumours are prevalent among tobacco chewers and of the 1000 cancer sufferes who were given 1 gm daily for a year, 45% had a complete remission in tumours. I'm led to believe you can give Spirulina to dogs. It's available in Holland and Barratt and other health shops. You may want to google to find out more.
No Mercy - really interesting reply but was this linked to cancerous tumours?
..but if NoM is right, do check it with your vet first. There have been several recent threads on here about the risks of giving human therapies to animals, as the reactions can be quite different.
I'm back!
Gromit, ask your vet about giving your vet about giving your dog Amoxyclav [it's an antibiotic]. This has been used on oral cancerous tumours aside Metacam and appears to hold off any growth. This was recommended by a woman with many years of dog ownership and rescue experience [trusts her vet implicitly]. She knows her stuff and it worked on my neighbours dog also. No harm in asking your vet about it.
As for NoM's suggestion of Spirulina, I haven't read up about it [I will now], but I have been giving my dogs human grade supplements for years with no problems so If I were you I'd try it.
Let us know how you get on.

If it is not cancerous and is not causing any problems, then why give her anything?
Antibiotics won't help, food and vitamin additives are useless, so just wait and see as the vet suggested.
Oh........ I bow down to Sqad's veterinary skills. It must be my imagination that my once Metacam dependant Dane has been drug free for over a year due to a combination of Gulcosamine, Green lipped Mussel, Devils claw [a natural anti-inflammatory] and rose hip [also found after being recommended on her by a member who's sister is a midwife and has been using it for years].
Allegedly all useless! But far cheaper and less damaging than prescribed drugs.
Divegirl...unless I am mistaken Metacam was given for cancerous growths.

Gromits dog hasn't got a cancerous growth.

Have I missed the point?

Thx all for your good wishes and suggestions. Have checked out Spirulina which is mentioned on the Burns pet nutrition site, so will give that a go. Thx again and best wishes to all - and their pets! <3
No Sqad, Metacam is given as a pain relief/inflammatory drug!
