how do you cash an american cheque in the uk? we still have an american bank acct where maybe a chq can be paid in by a friend over there but the thing is the cheque has our uk address on the front of it. is it possible to take it to somewhere like a cash liquidator store and to get something back for it at least. its for 85 dollars so 60 pounds would be good!

For a small value cheque auctionchex are good value

Their exchange rate is not that good, but fees are next to nothing

Can't see any reason not to pay it into your US bank account though - except that you've then still the problem of repatriating the funds if that is your ultimate goal

not particularly, we dont mind leaving funds over there in acct.

is there anything on the high st where we can go?
Your own bank in the UK will cash it for you (well accept it for processing). £20 is a typical charge but they do vary.

Not aware of anywhere that will cash it on the spot. You can ask at a cash liquidator store but I doubt it.
When I had a cheque in US dollars about 4 or 5 years ago my bank (NatWest) wouldn't accept it, but my husbands bank, Barclays did. I suggest that you contact your bank to see if they will accept it. btw the cheque I had was only for about $20, so maybe NatWest would have accepted it if it had been for a larger amount.
