Any recommendations for hotels or apartments? Had thought about staying in a Disney hotel, but a) very expensive b) want to visit Universal too and c) may feel a bit 'trapped' in Disney.
Would be for a mixed age family group.
Thanks.

We have been twice and both times were in a villa. We loved it. You have your own space, and more importantly (especially for the children), your own pool. The villas are VERY well equipped with ovens, the big American fridge/freezers, microwaves, washing machine, tumble dryer, TV etc. Many of them have playstations and have also converted the garages into games rooms with table football, table tennis etc in there. We did do some cooking, but did also ate out a lot as it is cheap, very good, and huge portions. There are thousands of villas within 20 minutes drive of Disney and I'm sure you would find one suitable for your group.
a friend of mine has a lovely villa [ just the one] she rents out if you want the number ?
you will want to go and do much more than just Disney and Universal though, Wet and Wild is a must if you have kids and then if you have a car dont miss out on Bush Gardens its a great day out.
Agree with the above been 3 times in 3 different villas. Come and go as you please and somewhere to chill out in the evenings after the theme parks and a meal out. We stopped on the Lindfields estate good location and a good base its just off US192 West in Kissimee
we are going to monumental movieland hotel orlando :)

Hadn't really considered a villa, will have a look, and will check out monumental movieland too. What may you decide on it?
Stay at the Polynesian.

The End.

Don't stay off the Disney complex.

Disney is not the size of a normal theme park ... it's the size of a British county !!!

And ... if you stay on the complex ... your room key pass covers everything ... meals, entry to the parks, rides, transfers ... the lot !!

DO NOT consider any alternatives.

My original plan was to stay at Disney, maybe the log cabins, but it is sooo expensive.
The Polynesian is worth it. And it's SOOO convenient ... just hopping on the shuttle outside the hotel door, and getting off at the entrance to the theme parks !

Seriously ... don't stay off the Disney resort.

It's SOOOO big !!!

If you stay anywhere else in Orlando, it's like visiting London, and staying at a hotel in Bedfordshire.
