Had to get a guy in to get rid of the Security Tool Trojan, while he was there he told us not to use IE8
now I know it had issues a few months ago but I thought they would have fixed them by now.

So does anyone know what its wrong with it and what they are doing to fix it.

Never had any problems with IE8, but there are updates that turn up for it from time to time via Windows Updates. Did you upgrade to IE8 via Microsoft Windows Updates ?
Firefox or others are less vulnerable to security issues.
IE has always been vulnerable.

I only installed windows 7 a couple of weeks - Don't think the Trojan came in by that.

Its all updated, about two months ago they said there were security issues on IE8 and I have never had problems I have all the updates.

This guy built my computer and didn't try to sell anything just said use Firefox.
If any nasties turn up on your PC then it's easy to try and use IE8 as the scapegoat. They can turn up regardless of what Browser one uses so having a good Virus guard is probably the key.
Having a good virus guard is fine, but if you click on a dodgy link then nothing can stop it. I haven't used anti virus for about 4 years now and have had no trouble at all.

Sorry haven't been clear I know how the Trojan got in (My daughter and her friend, they are 24)

I am asking what are the IE8 issues its to do with security, it was widely reported in January. Its not a scapegoat, the trojan wasn't IE8's fault.

I want to know what are the issues and why a company like Microsoft haven't fixed it?
"I haven't used anti virus for about 4 years now and have had no trouble at all. "

How do you know? just because you are not being told you have nasties it doesn't mean they are not there.
I've never had a virus... but then I use a Mac ;-P
^ A linux wannabe then :)

Well lets put it this way Mr clever clogs, If I'm not having any trouble then to me there's no problem. My pc is fast and in excellent working order what else can I ask?
Keyloggers, for example, wouldn't slow down your system at all or show you any sign that they are there, yet they could still be sending your login details for every site you visit to somebody in eastern Europe.

What more could you ask for?

A secure computer.
So they get my login details? what possible use could they be?
Oh yeh they could post an answer on here for me.......
i think they have chucks password he was just skin and bone yesterday
Or access your online banking if you use it,
or online credit card payment,
or your email accounts that may provide them with enough personal details to commit identity fraud

You could also be making every single file stored on your computer available to a bloke sitting in a room on Korea, again providing them with enough details to clone your identity.

The idea of "my computer runs fast so it can't be infected" is ludicrous, do you seriously think that the people that write the really harmful stuff would make it so obvious you have a problem, they will be writing it to hide itself as well as it possibly can and this would include using as few system resources as possible.

Well, they've had 4 years and if they wan't my ID they're welcome to it. they won't get far 'being me'
Use firefox and get a decent anti virus AND anti malware protection and you shouldnt get anything. no need to pay some guy £40 per hour to do something you can fix yourself.

Try installing spybot search and destroy (its Free) and also a proper paid for anti virus programme (mcffee, norton, or kaspersky) and keep it up to date! regardless of what people say your first line of defense should always be a full paid for subscription anti virus product.
There are free ones out there but they simply aren't as good as a full subscription .

you should also have a back up program or secondary line of defense to run once per week (iobit 360 is pretty good and is also free) There is a lot of free software out there which will do a great job as secondary defence.
There is an online scan at trend micro which is very good and also if you have something you cant get rid of try trend micro system clean (its free). I find that gets rid of just about anything (you should turn off system restore when you use it, as often viruses or trojans hide in the system restore files which anti virus software will not access unless you swith it off.)
Dont forget to turn it back on when youve finished and create a back up point when you've finished.

I use Mcffee and iobit 360 running at the same time. I have spybot search and destroy as a secondary check once per week. I rarely catch anything and i'm online 16 hours a day. If I do get something Sysclean sorts it out or even the online trend micro scan is pretty good at spotting things others haven't.
Its easy to learn how to do this and can save you a packet. just keep your anti virus and anti malware software up to date and run a full check of each at least once per week.
thetruthhurts you can get free anti virus, it was only a couple of weeks back that i was on a few aircraft sites and the Security Tool Trojan tried to get back in my computer.
all i had typed into google was
airbus a380b wings made in china

lucky for me i have avg and malwarebytes (spelling ? ) and they stopped it
You're lucky it wasn't the smss adware
AVG free won't stop it installing.
I have fixed 3 different PC's with it now, in last 4 weeks.
