// An anti fascist campaigner was almost certainly killed by a specialist riot squad officer at a demonstration against the National Front, according to a Scotland Yard report released today - 31 years after the notorious incident.

Blair Peach, a 33-year-old New Zealander, was hit over the head at the demonstration in Southall, west London on April 23 1979. He died in hospital of head injuries the next day.

The internal report also concluded that some officers conspired to cover up the truth surrounding the death of the special needs teacher.

Some 14 witnesses reported seeing Mr Peach being hit by a police officer. The previously secret report attaches "grave suspicion" to a policeman only identified as "Officer E", and recommends that officers E, H and F should face charges of perverting the course of justice. //

I wonder if lessons have been learnt and it could never happen today?

Didn't the police officer who hit a young woman in full view of cameras walk free from court?
I doubt if there will be any convictions following the death of the newspaper vendor who died after being shoved to the ground by a police officer.
It is happening again, unfortunately.
It can happen anytime violent left wing activists decide to go on the rampage because they found something they don't agree with.
No. It wasn't left wingers who beat Blair Peach to death. It was members of the Police. They were probably right wingers.
A local friendly bobby probably couldn't even beat a protestor to death today without someone complaining about 'ooman rights.

It's political correctness gone mad.
There will always be deaths caused by the police -it's sad but the nature of the job means that it will happen.

What is important is how it is dealt with.

I don't believe we have seen a cover-up in either of the two recent cases

In the Tomlinson case the officer was suspended and the whole thing was dealt with in the public eye.

You may not approve of the conclusion but it is light years away from what happened in the Blair Peach case.

That's not to say it couldn't happen again. Just that in current cases it has not happened.

Gene Hunt must be spinning in his grave
".There will always be deaths caused by the police -it's sad but the nature of the job means that it will happen. "

So when violent demostrators go on the rempage and the police have to control the riot any deaths and injuries are entirely the fault of the police are they jake? right oh!
The fact is if they demonstrated as the law allows there'd never be any death or injury.
Shame Tomlinson wasn't a demonstrator - must spoil your cosy little theory
If you park on double yellow lines, and the police come and shoot you in the face for illegal parking, it's partly your fault.

If you hadn't parked illegally, you wouldn't have been shot.

End of!
Yeah, everybody knows that it was entirely PC Blakelock's fault he got murdered for viciously attacking a machete with his head.......
Police recently multi-tazered a guy who had just had an epelectic fit, even though ambulance staff told the police.
