On checking the signal strength on Sky (just had a new Sky+hd box fitted ) Input 1 signal strength just shows a totally white line (same as the above title box) and signal quality now shows the same, although yesterday a blue block started at about 60% along the white line. On input two both strength and quality lines are totally blue, whilst yesterday the strength line was fully white and the other was blue from about 65% of the line....The TV has not been altered, neither have any wires or cables been touched..Does anyone know from reading this what my signal and quality strengths actually are, as I am a bit dim! The picture isnt too bad anyway as it;s a brand new Sony HD and Freesat. Thanks, John

The Engineer who installed you equipment should have had a signal meter with him at the time and if as you say you are not satisfied with the quality I would call Sky and tell them that you are not happy and can they send another Engineer round to sort it out.

Hi Redman, I reckon I,m going to have to do that. The thing is though if the strength and quality lines are fully white and this means 100% signal and quality and the pictures not too bad, what am I moaning about they would say...DOES it mean 100%??? John
If your picture is not too bad then it's not right as my Sky Picture quality is spot on. Clear as glass in other words. If it's a new installation call Sky back as everything is still under Guarantee and get a competent Engineer in to do the work and not a 'Cowboy'. Good luck.
What exactly do you mean by picture "not too bad"? With digital transmission there is no such thing: either the picture is as it should be or it breaks up into blocks. If the picture is not breaking up then that is as good as it gets.

Satellite signal strength and quality are affected by atmospheric conditions which no amount of Engineer manipulation will be able to counteract.

The picture on HD is no better than normal. The quality is no better than the tv it replaced. Either there is something wrong or HD TV is totally overrated! The picture does not break up,but if that's the best there is I would go back to analogue! Anyway,I have just complained by email to Sky to see what they have to say.... Thanks, John
Hello john, I had a similar thing when I got Sky HD, the picture is good but theres not a great deal of difference, I had the engineer to check it for me and we have established that my HD ready television was one of the first ones out, we have had the 40" LCD tele about 5 yrs now, either that or they were just flamming me off?

The HD TV only makes a difference when you're watching the HD channels, remember!
