I have been using my sons latop for a few months, but have one of my own now. What is the best way of taking all of my personal saved documents, photos etc off the laptop, deleting them off this one, then transferring them onto mine please ??

4 main options I think:

Buy a small USB memory key (£10) and copy all the files TO the memory key, move it to your PC and copy them OFF the memory key.

Buy an external hard derive and copy the files OFF his PC to the external drive, then move the drive to YOUR PC and copy the files off.

Copy the files to CD or DVD on HIS PC, then move the CD/DVD to YOUR PC and copy the files off.

If both PCs use the same router you can set up Windows so each PC can "see" the other one. You can then just copy the files straight from HIS PC to YOUR PC (this is the most technical but the easiest to do once set up).
One other option is to use an online (web based) storage area.

Copy the files from HIS PC up to the web space, then logon to the same site with YOUR PC and download the files to your PC.

This is quite good because you will then have the file safely backed to the web in case you need them again.

Some companies do give free web space (I think Microsoft do give free space with Windows Live)

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE FILES SAFELY ON YOUR PC **BEFORE** DELETING THEM FROM HIS PC.

If you delete them from his PC after backing them up, then something goes wrong with getting them on to your PC you may lose all the files.
