A few months ago they were telling us that it is not racist to discuss immigration, and now Brown is condemning the Tories for scaremongering, racism and xenophobia.

/// The Prime Minister opened himself up to claims of hypocrisy by insisting people should not be allowed to make unsubstantiated claims about migration.///

This is from the guy who only a few days ago fixed the immigration figures to suit his argument, that numbers were falling.

/// Brown said: 'The question is who has the best plan to control immigration. ///

Well it certainly can't be New labour, seeing that they have had over 13 years to implement a plan, but still there seems no solution to the problem of mass immigration into this country.

I see some people actually believe I meant what I proposed - now that is seriously scary. This time the intended sarcasm missed its mark for sure..
I knew Karl. Honest!! :-)

I was just trying to out-sarcasticise you.

And I think it's disgusting some people can't address an important issue with due deference without introducing adolescent so-called humour.

You're the one who should be chipped, pinned and deported. Go back to Ironia or wherever you people come from.

>Just the sort of immigrant the country needs - ones who try to assimilate and adopt local customs.

Sorry but these people are professionals at it, and make most our locals seem like amateurs.

A 60 year old white friend of mine went to an Asian wedding a few months ago, and said he learned more about fiddling tax and claiming benefits in one afternoon than had had in all his previous years.

That's not necessarily true - I mean, look at the huge, huge, huge numbers of Asians who have opened their own businesses, pumping money into local communities. Look at the Asians who have opened restaurants, providing employment for locals.

These are the things that are ignored when immigration is discussed. It's almost like people think that ALL immigrants are here to sponge, when that's clearly not the case. It's just guff spread by certain right wing organisations who want to smear all immigrants.

Fortunately, most people aren't taken in by that sort of nonsense.
> I mean, look at the huge, huge, huge numbers of Asians who have opened their own businesses, pumping money into local communities.

Many small Asian businesses (like corner shops and newsagents) ONLY employ members of their family. Often only one person actually earns a salary, the "husband" (so the rest dont actually pay ANY tax as they down "earn" anything).

Everything that comes into the shop is "cash" so easy to skim some off the top. They also buy their stuff trade in cash (from Asian wholesalers) so again avoid putting it through their books.

How many non-Asians do you see working in there? How many women? How many of the people working in there are also on the dole.

Dont be misled, these people are artists at avoding tax and keeping as much money as they can for themselves. Lets face it they come from countries were they pay little tax so go out their way to avoid paying it here in the UK.
