What car has he got?
and how old is he?
What car are you trying to insure, i recommend getting a small car for cheaper insurance, as insurance is very expensive. Check out http://theycompare.co.uk , http://gocompare.com , http://moneysupermarket.com

Its a T reg Citroen Saxo which I got as I only wanted to insure him against 3rd party- he is prangs this car, so what I just throw it way and get another instead of claiming on the insurance.
He is 18.
Done all the comparison websites- cheapest was Quinn at £2500!!

Does it make a difference having the car registerd to him instead of me?
have you triede adding yourself as a named driver.

you may also find that fully comp isnt much more than 3rd party

what sort of saxo is it? has it been modified etc?

I have tried adding myself but am wondering if the web software is clever enough to realise that I am unlikely to be the main driver if he owns it. Added myself as main and named driver- made nodifference.

Basic unmodified 1.1 Saxo
Souds about right Kos!

You want to try getting an insurance for a new driver on an '06 2ltr Megane!
Most companies still want £2,800 plus from me and I am 23 and driving nearly a year. (And female which helps!)

Try Swinton, that is who I got mine from in the end and they were by far the cheapest at £1,300.
I know it sounds odd but Third Party Fire and theft is often cheaper than Third Party only - give it a try - a local broker may also be able to help you.
im not sure if they cover very young drivers but try http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/
my saxo wasnt good enough for adrian flux redcrx
Also a Saxo is loaded as it's known as a "yoof" vehicle and they expecet that it will get modified. Depending on the model it's Group 3 to Group 14 (model??). You really need a group 1 car for the cheapest. Then never claim and eventually he'll have affordable insurance. But as you say he hits things so it's not surprising the premiums are high. Any of these are Group 1:

Having a parent take out the insurance and naming the son/daughter as an additional driver is illegal if the child is the main driver. Any claim may be denied and the child could be done for having no insurance and the parent can de done for fraud.
