i've recently been travelling to the USA every 3/4 months to visit my boyfriend.  I stay for at least 3 weeks, the last visit (which i have just returned) i extended to 6 weeks.  As i travel from the UK i have a Visa Waiver Programme machine readable passport whcih is valid till 2008.  i'm hoping to return for a 90 day visit towards the end of August 2005,  how long do i have to wait until i can return to the USA for either another 90 day visit or on a temporary visitors visa and does anyone have any advice in the best steps to take about gaining long term entry to the USA.  i'm hoping to eventually before the end of the year be able to stay in the USA.

I believe you only have to leave for a full week before you can return to the states. As for staying there long term i think the only way is to get a visa which allows you to stay for 6 months instead of 3, which you would need to obtain through the american embassy in london and to stay permanently you need a green card but i am not sure how you would go about that but im sure the american embassy will give you all the information you need, not sure of the address of their website sorry
unfortunately if you are a UK resident you are not able to take part in the green card lottery
You do not say whether you wish to work in the USA. If you do it may help to say my son has been seconded to USA. His Company got him the necesssary visa, etc. It has been an uphill struggle, battling all the time with problems to make things work. Firstly credit rating is a big thing - evidently you need this in order to get just about everything. He had to pay extra up front for renting an apt. extra upfront re services, gas, elec. phone, leasing a car was not straightforward and car driving licences again a struggle. Altho he enjoys the work he is doing and reasonably well rewarded he and others (seems to be the case generally) only get two weeks holiday per year. But if you are going to live with an American things would be made much easier for you for as I say the Americans do not make it easy for the English starting work in the US. I am sure the answer you have got earlier re re-entry is correct

Hey Zelha

i have just got back form USA myself and i met an american there, i am am a uk citizen and i would like to take things further with this guy and do what your doing! Can i ask your advice, when you get to the port of entry did they ever give you any trouble i mean when they ask you where your staying and for how long what answers did you give them. The last thing i want is to be refused entry i will be staying fo rthe 90 days and coming back working and returning for 90 days then hopefully settle there too!!! So i would appreciate your advice as to whether i will be ok saying im visiting a friend and whether they will be suspicious?
