Why do helicopter pilots sit on the right

Not sure this is Technology

Why does the Captain (Pilot in Command) sit in the left hand seat of an airliner (fixed wing) but the Captain of a helicopter sits in the right hand seat.

I asked the RAF and the Air Ambulance service and they dont know the real reason either except possibly that the collective pitch control (up/down/power) was originally in the centre of the cabin and easier to control with the left hand leaving the right hand free to steer using the cyclic control. Opinions still differ though.
