My ex (who gives me tonnes of bull) told me at short notice that he may not see our son this weekend as he is travelling to southern ireland for his godson's confirmation . he then went on to say he's not even sure if he'll be able to go til he gets to the airport as his passport is out of date but he's heard he can travel with just ID. this sounds so unlikely to me and smells like more bull-am i wrong?it's not that i'm fussed -just curious . also are godparents obliged to attend confirmations?

By air you need a photo id usually a passport even within a country in Europe.

Maybe he is on a ferry to NI
he doesn't need to go to a confirmation but it's a nice idea, his duties as godfather would tend to cease once the child has confirmed his faith for himself.
I think he's wrong if he is travelling to Southern Ireland, that is part of the EU not the UK, I am almost certain he will need a passport.
Hi jenarry - You can travel without a passport between Ireland and the uk you just need photo ID. Confirmations can turn into a fairly big part over here so although he as a hod parent is not obliged to go maybe he feels obliged to be there. Is he a sponsor to the child as they have to pick a sponsor for confirmation?
Sorry - big party

the ex told me today he's flying with ryan air. i gather they tend to be a bit more rigid on the id/passport thing nowadays so i think he's going to be making a wasted trip to airport early tomorrow am. shame ;O)
