Blimey! Has it got diamonds encrusted in it? Why don't you try one of the stores like Timsons and see if they can do it any cheaper?
what is the make of the watch
try and find a market near you ,even with petrol to another town and the battery wont cost that x

I don't know Dr F - it's one I got in Holland. A silver one with a fancy intricate bracelet - I wouldn't have thought it cost more than £120 (it was a pressie).

I will try Timsons - I'm going there today to get my biker boots reheeled and I fancy the young guy in there, so good excuse for a chat!!

They say it's so expensive cos they have to send it off because the back is not easily removed and can't be done there & then in a shop.
a watch i had a few years back needed a new battery, they said they have to send it back to the manufacturer for the battery as it also needs a new seal when they take the back off.

Yes, I think it's something along similar lines - though £37 still seems a bit steep don't you think?
that is how they make more money out of you, i would ask around and or do what the doc said. the watch i had i gave to a friend after a few months , no way would i pay that fee again.
It is the same for me and my watches.

I now buy from the market stall.

I find the more expensive the watch, the dearer the batteries. Maybe they figure out if we can afford the watch, then we can afford the batteries!!!!
Replacing my Watch Battery at Timpsons the other week cost me £6-99 and was done in less than 10 mins.
H.Samuel are expensive salla and if I was you I would ask at your nearest Timpsons Store.

the name of the shop Eddie?
Do you think I'd be better off going to a small independent jewellers?
They say the high price is because of having to take the sealed back off & then reseal it.
They saw me coming.....!

it depends how much you value the watch, sal. I've been quoted £45 to send one of mine away, but I took a risk with a local jeweller who did it for a fiver. then the jewellers closed so I've taken it to a local shoe repairer who also does watch batteries, again, about a fiver.

but I wouldn't go swimming with it on now, just in case the seal has been ruined.

Blimey, shame they didn't mean £3.70 salla?
Having worked in a jewellers I can assure you that no battery costs more that £2.00. Even batteries for expensive watches.
In that particular jewellers they would charge according to the type of watch - so a swatch would cost a fiver and a tag would be fifteen!!
If they have to be sent off to the manufacturer for sealing (using Tag again as an example) that would be expensive - at least forty quid.

Nowadays, if I can get the back off the watch, I buy the battery off ebay.
