I am thinking of taking up the guitar again after a long time away from it. I have an acoustic steel strung guitar and wondered if anyone could recommend what strings I could restring it with. Previously my teacher used to restring it for me but very sadly he has passed away, and so I can't ask him. I've not got a clue what to choose. Any recommendations would be most welcome :)

I always use Martins -watch out for the guage though (they do some monsterously heavy ones).

Right, I've heard of that brand. What guage would be considered appropriate for general playing? The guage has been one of the things that has been throwing me as there seems such a variation. Thanks for your advice :)
ideally you should replace like for like as a significant change in string gauge changes the tension on the neck and this may need to be adjusted. However, a set of 10s is normal and should be ok unless you have had so way out gauge in the past
the guages are different for each string....just buy the set 1 - 6, the thickest being the bass string.
