Hi

Im currently looking for work but every job i apply for always wants 2 references, but I dont have any references to provide, the only reason I dont have any is just because the places I have worked it as closed down or now under new management so it is impossable for me to get any.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can offer to future employers instead of the job references

Have a word with your local Councillor and ask him/her if they would be willing to give you a Character Reference. Even if they do not know you particularly well you will be known to them especially if you are on Electoral Register.
You could also ask your Parish Priest or Vicar if they could offer a reference to any future Employer.
Just a thought !
yes redhelen is correct. When we recruit we always advise that personal references are acceptable if you are unable to provide any from a previous employer. It helps further if the person holds a position of some reponsibility / authority.

Good luck with you job hunting
I'd agree with redhelen - I've been in a similar situation where past employers have either stopped trading, or in a couple of instances the people I worked have died in the years since I worked there. A personal reference from a reputable person you have known for a while, or if you have worked as a volunteer anywhere (youth club, sports etc) will usually be considered.
You might try looking for some casual work (where references are usually less important) and then getting the manager/supervisor/team leader to provide you with a reference for when you're applying for permanent employment.

For example, I deliver Yellow Pages and work on traffic surveys (neither of which require references) on a self-employed basis. When I recently sought (and got) an employed position, I was able to get references from the delivery and survey firms.
