Internet Explorer won't open

Hi all
My husband installed the latest version of Internet Explorer (IE8?) and now my internet explorer won't open. When i click on it i get a timer just for a minute as if it's going to open the page, but then nothing happens. the only way i can get onto the internet is via Safari.
Does anyone know how to fix this?!

it's very likely it's an addon that is stopping it from working, so firstly try
click start menu-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Internet Explorer (no Add-ons)
If that then runs then it's one of the addons stopping it from working, in which case while IE8 is running Go to tools and select Manage Add-ons and disable all add-ons, then close IE and try opening it the normal way, if that then works it was an add-on causing the problem, in which case start re-enabling them one by one (quiting IE and re-loading between each one) to see which one is causing the problem.

Internet Explorer still has too many problems for my liking even in a secure environment, on most users PC's who know little about security it is particularly a problem if an add on can do this just think what a malicious programme or hacker could do
