I have just signed a deal to buy a new car using my old car as part of the governments scrappage deal, however I won't get delivery of the new car until early Feb 2010. The sales guy says the expected delivery date is around the 10th of Feb.
The problem I have is that the MOT runs out on my old car on the 1st of Feb and the Road tax on the 31st Jan. Do have to retax and MOT my car before I hand it in to the dealer? bearing in mind that the car is going to be scrapped...
One friend suggested handing in the car to the dealer before the end of January and wait for the new car to arrive.... the old car then being the responsibility of the dealer...

Any thoughts or ideas welcome......

Why not ask the dealer?

the scrapage scheme states that the car must have current MOT and tax, but it's up to the dealer if they will accept the car early.

If you need the use of a car between end Jan & delivery of new car and you dont want to re tax/mot old car why not ask dealer if he has a courtesy car you can borrow.
You can get a rebate on the unused months of tax, I scrapped my car and was able to do this
