I am trying to connect my laptop to a projector for a PowerPoint presentation.  I'm using an s-video cable.  The problem is, I'm only getting my wallpaper to show on the projector.  There are no desktop icons coming up and the PowerPoint slide show will not appear either.
Can anyone help please?
Ps. it's for a best man's speech this weekend so time is of the essence.

Check your graphics card settings. It is possible that your graphics card is set up to extend the desktop across another monitor, and it thinks the projector is just that. It will use the same wallpaper on both screens and you should be able to drag icons & program windows across to the other monitor, but it won't work for a presentation. Peruse the Display Properties in Control Panel to turn off this feature.
I am afraid I cannot help with the svideo bit, but if you can use a normal monitor cable, that is the best bet.

I use my laptop and desktop on my projector using a standard 15 pin monitor cable and never had any problems.

I would expect both a laptop and a projector to have this connection (more likely than an s-vdieo connection!!!)

Best of luck

Thanx for the help everyone.  Ralph, you were bang on, although instead of disabling the extended monitor feature, I managed to use it to my advantage.

Ps. the speech was a rip-roaring success as was the wedding. Cheers.
