I have my gas and electric from scottish power and up until 6 months ago i paid them a direct debit, they then got greedy and kept trying to up my payments as they do, even when i had a masive credit so i put a stop to that and told them i would revert to a bill payment every quarter and keep the money in my account. what i am amazed to learn is the big discount you get for paying within 10 days ie, my present bill is for £276.03 including the vat of £10. 89. they have given me a discount of £47.42 for paying my last bill within the ten days, so this bill is now only £228.61, my question is how on earth can any business give a £47.42 discount on a total bill of £276.03 it is a pretty big percentage, not that i am complaining, but what worries me is how much are we being over charged in the first place,

i wanted to revert back to paying quarterly but when i enquired i was told that option had been removed, but you can pay in advance if you want to, this was back in august, they reduced my monthly payments so i'm sticking with it for another year as i can't get it cheaper anywhere else, you done well

Hi TFG, I can not see how they can remove that option from you, i was told that i could not pay by cash or chq when i fist told them i was going too refert back, they will lie and tell you anything to try and keep you on direct debit just do as i did and cancel it with your bank, they then have no choice but to send you a bill and there is nothing they can do about it
