19a Laid?
19a Possibly Fand - in Chambers as past tense of find (Scot)
8d Jass - replace B in Bass with J(uliet)
8d Could be JASS - possibly an early form or spelling of Jazz (clutching at straws here!) derived by taking the B (first beat) from BASS (singer) and replacing it with J (Juliet).
