The cigarette lighter on my corsa is not working. I tried putting a new fuse in just in case it was that, but no difference. I only use the socket for my mobile phone in car charger. Would this have an adverse effect on the socket?

have you tried pulling the socket out of the console/facia to check plug is on the back,
i ran a cable direct from the battery to the socket so i can charge phone or a sat/nav whilst car is locked.
Hi, if your car was fitted with a lighter it should be working, are you sure you have checked the right fuse? If you have the lighter itself insert it to see if there is feed to the plug, if not draw the whole plug out to see if the wire is on at the rear also try it with your Ign, (but it should work without the Ign on.)
TWR on my Astra you need the ignition on for the socket to work, so the Corsa is probably the same.

Have you checked the fuse inside the plug of the charger?

No gsr600, have not tried pulling the whole thing out so will do. Will also check fuse inside the plug billy b.When you say pull the whole thing out, do you mean just the metal part or the metal part and surrounding plastic? Yes I have changed the right fuse, I got the manual out to make sure. To all others, it does not work whether the ignition is on or off. Many thanks for all your suggestions everyone.
yes the oblong plastic as well as socket - to all *you Definately need the ignition on* in a corsa C - as i have 2 .

You are a star gsr600. Went to the car armed with screwdriver and gently levered out the whole unit. Guess what? Nothing attached to the back. I peered down the hole and there was the wire which had obviously come off. Retrieved the wire, plugged it back, returned unit to car and eureka!! My mobile phone charger now works. Thank you so much, it has been irritating me for a while now but I did not know you could pull it out until you told me (PS to the others kind enough to reply to me, on my car, this does only work when the ignition is turned on, but that is all I want it to do)
