A new report records an increase in violence by women. It has been suggested that a principal cause is binge drinking. An MP has proposed that taxes on high alcohol drinks and cheap supermarket beer should be increased! Higher taxes aren't going to reduce excessive boozing...the answer surely is to reduce pub hours and cut availability.......why penalise moderate drinkers with higher prices ?

i think increasing prices just leads to theft- especially the cheap supermarket beer etc.....nothing much (in my opinion) will change- people just get the money from somewhere and personally i thnk its upto the individual!!

people just party at home when pubs close or go clubbing no amount of price hikes or adverts or leaflets or whatever i thik makes a difference- i know that i binge at weekends and its bad- think most of us do...and the adverts etc do make me think..but not change! xxx
Its quiet simple, like in most of the problems we have these days. Use the laws we have.

Problem is lefty do gooding judges passing pathetic sentences. Build some jails and put people in. this is actually one area where it would work, people would thing twice.

Of course it has to be coupled with a re engineering of our benefit culture or all those prosecuted simple calim some benefit or other.

Really its down to broken britain caused by Noo Labour

"my friends and I were never once abusive to anybody - physically or verbally.
So it isn't the drink that makes people agressive, "

you are making the fundamental mistake of assuming that what applies to you must be the same for everyone.

there are many many types of drunk - some are happy some are sad and some are "instant ar$ehole just add alcohol "

Zeuhl - you too are picking one or two specific examples and drawing a generalisation from it.

I am not suggesting that drunkenness is the problem (although it is a major health one) it is it's role in violent assaults.

I repeat 50% of victims think their assailant was drunk.

I really don't think the "Older kid" argument holds a lot of water there are many sources of alcohol - after all there is a complete ban on many drugs and the supply of them is rife.
