Who buys the stuff?

All petrol stations sell it, so someone must be buying it.

I've recently started a casual job, working as a relief van driver. When I went out to learn the job with one of the 'regulars', he instructed me in the procedures for fuelling the vans. This included the instruction to "go to whichever diesel pump you can get to quickest. If it happens to be 'Optimax Diesel' just chuck that in; the company will still pay for it".

So perhaps many of the purchases of 'premium' fuels are made by people who aren't actually paying for the fuel?

Incidentally, I happened to see a repeat of 'Fifth Gear' on TV yesterday, where they tested 'premium' fuels. There were significant improvements in the brake horse power of a high-performance car (Subaru Impreza) when using those fuels, but no difference whatsoever when the fuels were tried in a normal family saloon car.

Thanks buenchico, that's interesting, I've often wondered about the fuel qualities myself!

Thanks.

I don't think I'll bother.

I know Shell Optimax and BP Ultimate claim to clean the engine aswell, but I suspect a bottle of Redex is just as good.

Even Tesco sell 'Super Unleaded', but since bog standard stuff requires a mortgage for a tank, I won't go there.

I know a few people in the car club that I'm in that do buy as they claim it gives them that extra oomph where performance is concerned. Personally I would think it's negligible.
''So what do the drivers of Imprezas fill up on when they come here on their jollies looking for leprechauns?''

Guinness!
Only soft lad's drive scoody doo's snags.
Performance = more tax to Browns lot.
I'll stick with my 60 mpg diesel.
