Shouldnt matter.
The computer would presumably be set to use the new adapter as default and will therefore ignore the old WEP adapter.

doesnt seem to as it will not accept the pass code for wireless connection
Does the wireless adapter have it's own software?
Rather than using the windows zero configuration (WZC) utility it might be worth trying the one that came with the adapter.
Which adapter is it BTW?
The security has to match that set up on your router. Leave the laptop using WPA, reconfigure the router to also use WPA

does anyone no how to configure the router?
They might do, but you'd need to say what type of router it is. What's the brand and, if possible, model number. This information can usually be found on the router itself.
To configure the router you need to go to its web interface.

Firstly, obtain the IP address of the router:

Click Start, Run, type "cmd" and hit enter - this will open up a DOS screen
Type in "ipconfig /all" and hit enter - it will show all the IP addresses.
Look for "default gateway" under the wireless network card and note down the IP address. It could be something like 192.168.1.254.
Type in the IP address you jotted down in to Internet Explorer - it will prompt you for a username and password - you should have this on a sticker on your router or manual. You then basically need to change the encryption type from WEP to WPA.
Hope this helps.
