My friend's dog has suddenly started eating acorns. She is around ten to eleven years old and has never done this before. Has anyon else experienced this and do you know if acorns are dangerous in any way?
Thanks

Yes, both the acorns and the oak leaves affect the kidneys and symptoms appear after a few days, according to The Dogs' Trust. She should be dissuaded ! The Trust says that you should take the dog to the vet if it does show symptoms after eating any of the plant material in their list.
We used to have an oak tree in our garden and when our dog was very young she used to love to play with the acorns and chew them. We had our work cut out stopping her as no matter how many we got rid of she managed to find them. She did not however, experience any adverse affects from this. I don't think she ever managed to swallow any though.
