Lately (after having a 4 minute soft bolied egg) I seem, within an hour or so,to develop nasty stomach and back pains.
This only seems to happen with soft boiled eggs, and not with fried or scrambled eggs.I wonder if it might be something to do with the white of the soft boiled egg still being somewhat unset?
Has anyone else her experienced this.
I am really peeved(if it is this) because I love my boiled egg in the morning(I only have one a week at most).

Sorry can't answer your question, but just as an aside, why are you limiting yourself to one egg a week? Or do you mean just one boiled egg a week?
Hi mr v - no answer here either just want to say I do love a poached egg
try eating the egg at a later time to see if the same happens

Mmmmmm eggs:-) Don't eat loads myself, but when I do, they are from my own chooks, the difference from shop bought, even the ones labelled free range, is unbelievable! Maybe I should send you some Mr Veritas!

Well guys, what a selection of answers!

slinkycat,
I sometimes have more than one egg a week, but usually only one soft boiled.

peri,I must try a poached egg and see if that has the same effect, thank you.

tamborine,I would never have thought of that,You are right it might be that early in the morning my (very old) digestive system cannot handle a soft boiled egg?

mel0ns,Thanks anyway.

slinkycat,
We have an acre of meadow that we could put chickens in.
How many do you need(minimum)?
As there are only 2 of us,and we wouldn't want to have to get through too many eggs, although I suppose the neighbours might like a freebie?
Ah right, was just asking because I read recently that all the previous advice about limiting your egg intake because of the risks to your cholesterol level was found to be, well, unfounded! Seems that unless you have underlying health problems, and a propensity (big word for this time of night) towards high cholesterol, then you can eat as many eggs as you like! just lay off the hard boiled one first thing in the morning:-)
Sorry takes me soo long to type! Well I have 5 chickens, which works out to around 30 eggs a week in the first year. Mine are in their second year and the egg production has dropped, which explains why battery farms get rid of their hens after a year. Still more than enough for us though, and I can't recommend it highly enough, mine are in a back garden, its one of the best things I ever did, they are a constant delight:-)
Btw, you'll never have any problems getting rid of surplus eggs, now we don't have so many extras, the people we used to supply are getting withdrawel symptoms!
This isn't what would be termed an allergic reaction Mr.Veritas,it does sound like you have developed a sensitivity to eggs though.....but the fact it only happens with soft boiled eggs is quite odd. I would speak to your GP about it if I were you.
