Would appreciate some advice about a little cat that's been hanging about my garden for about a week.

It's an un - neutered male around 9 months to 1 year old. i'm guessing he has somehow lost his wat from his home fairly recently as he still looks in very good condition and had a little red collar on ( no contact details, just a little bell ) . However he does seem extremely hungry and although I probably shouldn't I have been putting food out for him in our shed - which explains , of course, why he is hanging about! He's such a friendly affecionate thing and shows no signs of ill treatment.

So , who would be the best people to contant to get him reunited with his owners?
I've asked around a few of the neighbours and checked local shops for posters but no luck. If I take him to the vet can they check to see if he is micro chipped? Or would we better to contact the local SSPCA ? Do we have to take the cat to them or can we just phone and ask if anyone has reported a missing cat of his description?

Unfortunately brining into our house is not an option. We've got two adult cats already, and a 2 months old kitten so we're definetly at our moggy limit!

Any suggestions would be appreciated , thanks.

Thanks sara. i'll get in touch with vet straight away.

It's so wet and wild here i've put him in the downstairs bathroom with some food. It would be great to get him home . i'll let you know how i get on.

Just back from the vets. Unfourtunately the cat is not micro chipped so we.re not really any further forward.

Have phoned the cat and dog home, who said they don't take descriptions of lost or found animals and gave me the number of National Petwatch.

Thanks for the suggestion, beejay, now we.ve had no luck with the chip I'm going to make up some posters this afternoon to put up in shops and in the girl's school.
I would think he is fairly local so put some posters up on lampposts around your area. Also the local chip shop is a good plaice(!) as people always read the notices whilst waiting. A poster in the vets and pet shops and also supermarkets might bring some news.
