Someone told me that my hair colour may attract some attention when I go to Egypt. I've made sure that I'll be suitably dressed, but In never thought about my hair ! I have medium length hair which will be covered up most of the time under my hat, I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this ?

I've been twice now and only once have I come across any problem. I was in a group where 3 sisters and one of their children all had white blond hair - we came out of a restaurant and a man tried to stroke the toddler in the pushchair and was making suggestive comments to the 3 blonde female adults.

It did scare my sister-in-law a bit but that is only one occasion of the two hols I have been on in Egypt and we were in a back street, away from the main tourist areas.

I think that if you stick to the main touristy places and just tell them to get lost if they do hassle you, you should be fine. I'm a brunette so have never had any problems ;-)
I'm a red head (well, for this week anyway lol) and i've never had any problems. My teenage daughter is a natural platinum blond and it's a nighmare whenever we go away. On holidays in Egypt & Turkey she ended up wearing a hat at all times as men thought they had the right to approach her and fondle her hair (and the rest of her, given the chance. I ended up slugging a waiter in Turkey.)
They love blondes probably because their women have darker hair, if you're going to a tourist area you'll be fine but off the beaten track you probably will atract attention.

Have a lovely time. It's an interesting country.
