Is there enough to do in Chester for a weekend (without a car) to make it a full three days? What's to do? Where to stay?

Chester is a relatively small city. Although nice and very pretty, 3 days may be a bit too much.
Lots of resturants and nice bars, old buildings and histroical sites.
You could always visit Chester zoo for one day. Liverpool is not so far away on train and North Wales is 15 minutes on train also.
Where to stay i'm unsure, there are a few Holiday Inn's in city...

Agree with JOnesy - I'd do a day in Chester and then track along the railways to somewhere spectacular like Llandudno (Great Orme Head) and Conwy or Caernarvon (big castles), or go into Liverpool (Albert Dock). I sayed at the Mill Hotel about a decade ago - it was good but it might have changed......
It depends on what you like doing. There are enough shops to keep me entertained for most of the day, then there are boat trips along the river, you can walk around the walls and visit the roman ruins and museums. That would be enough to keep me entertained for two full days. Then add in a trip to Chester Zoo and you've got your three full days!

Thanks everyone!
I lived in Chester until last year (still not far now!) and I would agree, possibly not enough to do for 3 days unless one of those is a race day. As mentioned, Chester Zoo is a full day out. In Chester itself, shops are great, nice selection of restaurants. U could walk the roman walls and visit the ampitheatre (excuse the spelling!) if thats something youre in interested in? There are now plenty of travelodges, premier inn, etc in the city centre, and some nice hotels if you want to spend a little more. Liverpool doesnt take long on the train, nor does Manchester ( approx 50 mins). If you want specific info on restaurants, bars, hotels etc, Id be happy to help
