Possibly the slow worm (which is a type of lizard rather than a snake)

thank you both-sensible answers at last! Do either of you happen to know where is the only area in England where the Golden Eagles attempt to breed, as the answer I've got is only a guess, with no website address to back it up, and I do so appreciate that facility to check the answer.
no, I thought Scotland! Then realised it was meant to be in England. I think there were a few tries to reintroduce them into the far North of England, Cumbria maybe.. Might help your search
