Going slightly mental now though -answering same question twice....
Working down the pit at the time and deciding, with a couple of mates to go to Turkey, which was not a particularly popular destination at the time, for some sun not knowing of course Britain would have the hottest summer in years. We flew on August 11th and landed at Istanbul in the middle of a gun fight between the police nd a gang of hi-jackers and spent the next 12hrs in a under guard in a cargo hanger till the airport was cleared. Apart from that we had a great holiday, still in touch with Mick and Dave though we live all over the place and when ever we get together it always comes into the conversation

The daughter who's just told us we're going to be grandparents next year was a babe in arms. We were living in Milton Keynes (no change there!) and I was wasting a couple of hours every day commuting into and out of London. I say wasting but in those two hours I read 'War and Peace' and learned how to 'fix' a Rubik's cube (forgotten how, since), so there were some compensations.
1976 was the first proper year of my life...no hospital stays that year....as in 1975 aged 11 I had a major operation...I had spent the first 11 years of my life in and out of hospital. It was a lovely summer and is was uninterrupted for me...oh how wonderful....thank you for reminding me of it Dot.

I was a grumpy (because of the heat) 12-year old attempting to eat ham sandwiches - rendered crunchy through an infestation/ plague of ladybirds - on Skegness beach watching the Red Arrows. And I watched the West Indies thrash England after Tony Grieg said "we (would) make them grovel". Michael Holding - what a legend.
hey, don't you go calling Dot a re call girl, people might get the wrong impression
