I have been prescribed Erythomycin stearate antibiotics for my spots today. I'm so fed up with them. Has anyone taken these? How long did it take to see a difference? Won't they just come straight back when I've finished the months course?
Also, can I drink with them? Usually it says not to with antibiotics but I never thought to ask the Doctor.
Thanks.

Erythromycin is the drug of choice.

Better to avoid alcohol, but the odd glass of wine would fine.

May take about 8-10 weeks to show an improvement.

They might come back.

No I haven't taken them as I have never suffered from acne.
i take oxytetracycline every day to keep a lid on outbreaks. i can get away with not taking them for about 2 months and then it all flares up again. i've spoken to my gp recently about long term use as i've been taking them on and off for about 15 years, and she says it's ok as long as i have a blood test regularly (once a year). i appreciate it's a different antibiotic but maybe it's worth a chat with your gp once you've got it under control to find a long term answer.
adult acne's not nice is it? can have quite an effect on a persons confidence. best of luck.

Thanks sqad.
ethandron, no its not nice at all. And I think people often think that you're making a fuss over nothing. Its not an illness after all. But, they are awful big hot spots too. When you are young your skin can recover but I'm sure I'm going to have awful scarring now. I will see how I go with these then for the month then I have to go back anyway. I suppose he will discuss something longer term then.
Thanks for answering.
