Two questions:

1. Is it necessary to have insurance for a 50cc moped? If so what is the bare minimum type of cover?

2. Can a 50cc moped be ridden on a standard driving licence?

Thanks.

you must have at least third party cover, a full car licence can be used as a provisional motorcycle licence for a period of 2 years
You must do Compulsory Basic Training too, unless you passed you car test before1st Feb 2001.
markerlis may be correct about a car licence acting as a provisional licence for a motorbike, but it acts as a full licence for a moped if obtained before 1st Feb 2001
