When I have an incoming call and into the call a few minutes the phone rings during the call. I have noticed it don't ring on an out going call. What would cause this?

I suspect either the phone is faulty ... or worse
it's a wiring fault (probably split insulation which has become damp or wet causing the wire to grow salts and in effect to create a rectifier

a short circuit between the blue either blue & white or white & blue connector 2 and orange wire on 3
(I'm pretty sure it's between 2 & 3)
will cause the phone to ring constantly

The incoming ring is 80v ac while speech is 50v dc

so an incoming call will break down the faulty insulation and the phone starts to ring - eventually it dries ... and the ringing stops

It's difficult to say without testing the wires

if you have an NTE5 unscrew the cover plate and connect directly to the line ... if the fault dissappears - it's an internal wiring fault.

if you have lots of sockets ... it's just a case of splitting each socket out in turn

Thanks for your reply which makes sense .No way am I going to attempt to go in to the wiring. What I will do for a start is try another phone in that socket and see if it does the same. If I go into the wiring being a woman I will probabby land with a big bill from BT lol
From the Phone Socket on the wall to the Phone is the responsibility of the Householder. Anything leading into the Phone Socket is the responsibility of BT or you Phone Line provider. So if you can pinpoint where the problem lies, hopefully BT Engineer can bear the responsibility.
