I have heard �25 called a pony and �500 a monkey has anybody heard this and if so do you know why

Do you recognise "Stick a pony in my pocket, fetch the suitcase from the van ..." ?
Supposedly both terms come from Indian money, from the days when India was part of the British Empire A 500 note had a picture of a monkey on it and a 25 note (or a 25 coin , I forget which) had the design of a horse on it.
