My step sister and her family are on holiday in Florida... just discovered their house was burgled last night... completely ransacked and emptied... cars taken too...

They are away for another 10 days... on a much needed holiday (recovering from illness)...

Would you contact them and tell them what has happened ''now'', or wait until they come back so they can enjoy their remaining week's holiday?

We will make the house secure and have phoned the Police etc etc...

''contact them and reassure them that everything is under control and there is no need for them to return until the end of holiday''

Thanks Raz... have done... but the damage has been done thanks to 'bigmouth'... they're looking for flights to come back now...

TBH, I can understand their decision in wanting to come back... not that there is much to come back to... they've been completely cleaned out :-(
There are some scumbags in this world !!
Nothing I can say. If you (or anyone else) can persuade them there is nothing they can do, so much the better. But in all honesty, if it were me, I would be on a flight home.

How awful for them.

Snags - if there are any probs with the house ins co, you know how to contact me.
Do you or the rest of your family have any spare TVs/Music systems etc... in bedrooms or anything that could maybe be put in there just for the time being? Just so it doesn't look so cold when they come home sort of thing... Don't really know what else to say or suggest. Sorry to hear all this xx
Snags I know that we have not quite seen eye to eye on here for a while but lets call a truce as you can be very funny on here sometimes and I am so sorry to hear that has happened to your sis.

You know that your soh will help you out on this one.

So pecker up mate
sorry to hear of your burglary snags.

Had same but with horse tack & feed. Rotters cut fences last night; me useless dogs gave no alarm - they wont be fed today!

Thanks BM... appreciated... will email you if needs be...

I'm going to spend tonight up there with a mate... just in case anyone comes back for what little is left... they started to unscrew the 60" plasma off the wall but only got half way! Step sis' other half is a kitchen fitter.... they may come back for all his tools/equipment... the Police think that's what they were initially after...

Thanks again for your replies...
snags how awful for all of you.

Now they know I guess it is natural reaction to want to come home. Hope the insurance is sorted out for them and the low life get caught.
My aunt and uncle got burgled several times after they won the pools. The last time was before 3 days before Christmas one year, and the low lives took all the twins Christmas prezzies. I think the girls were only about 11 at the time. They also stole the chequebooks and cards, and were using the cheques to pay for Petrol in Gloucester and the surrounding area.
You and your mate be careful and don't get yourselves in any bother if they do come back.
China's right, Snags - you be careful. I don't like to see you upset. You've had me in stitches today with your posts ! x
snags, if these mongrel bred scumbags return nail them to the shed by the b0llocks set fire to it and then toss them a stanley knife.
Know it's too late now that "bigmouth" has poked her nose in, but someone has already mentioned the owners of the house should inform the insurance company as soon as possible. Surely "as soon as possible" means just that. As soon as they come home. The police would be able to tell the insurance company the crime was reported to them immediately it was discovered.
