What a role model for the younger generation! You have a good game, go out to a bar and get drunk, punch a bloke a few times with the help of a friend (caught on cctv), get arrested, go to court (signing autographs outside) and what a surprise! you get off!!!! So what do we learn from this? It really doesn't matter what you do, as long as you play in the premier league and are a "hero" you can act like a prat and you will always get away with it. Benitez, all his team, the man on the street, everyone seems to think that this type of behaviour is ok. Am I the only one who thinks that people like Gerard and all the other disgraceful sportspeople, actors and general celebrities have a duty to set a good example to all those who they influence. When I was growing up I don't remember ever seeing such behaviour from the likes of Bobby Charlton or Bobby Moore. These were gentlemen - there aren't many of them around anymore sadly.

Hi WhiteBear
Of course Steven Gerard is not the only one, he's just the latest. Eric Cantona's behaviour was just as bad and I like him! I just wish sportsfolk (far more than celebs) would just think before they do they stupid things they do or at least keep it out of the papers and courts.
quizzywig, i know what you mean, but it would b extreemly difficult to live a normal life if you had to be a good person 24/7, esp a person from Liverpool!!

I think the media is trying to show that no matter how famous you are, there wil always a devil side of it. look at amy winehouse? she got away from assulting someone.

i think its to do with money....and look at joey barton..... still playing football, and cantona... did he get banned for awhile after kicking that fan?
did anyone seriously think he'd be convicted in Liverpool?
So let the ''Comedians'' and ''Satirists'' sneer at David Beckham, I know a good bloke when I see one.
Yes totally agree, in this country there is a law for one and a law for the others.

It happens all the time, if you are a so called 'celebrity' you can sometimes get away with murder.

How often have we seen Footballers, Pop stars, some Police officers and even Politicians get off scot free or at least given a fine, which is 'chicken feed' compared to the salaries they earn.

But getting back to this Celebrities so called crime.

Did he in fact commit an act, that is not carried out on numerous occasions these days, in clubs and bars through out the country, without the perpetrators being dragged before the courts?
