Not sure if this is the right topic for my question, but here we go anyway. Why is it that Joe Public, like me and you, can legitimately be fined for dropping litter, yet postmen and women up and down the land seem to be able to get away with dropping their red bands wherever they fancy..? It's not just in the towns and cities, but my dad lives literally in the a**e end of nowhere, and they're even dropped in his front garden. Annoying in my mind. Surely, you'd think Royal Mail would address this problem.

there has recently been a bit of publicity round these parts about this. Im sure that if they are witnessed by any 'authority' member then they can be fined as it is indeed littering. As an ex-postie myself (some years ago) I always tried to keep hold of them but a lot aren't as considerate. try complaining to your local sorting office.
Get a life!

Bands can be dropped by accident, and as you pointed out they are red bands - totally bio degradeable.
My post women is always dropping them in the garden - when I'm weeding I get my sons to look for them - keeps them happy!!

Don't think it's intentional just happens - it's not like it's a life and death situation is it?

Jeez...I'm quite aware no-one is going to die from this, but to think that all these bands are 'accidentally' dropped, I think is a little naive. And I was merely raising a point, and I didn't realise them being red bands automatically made them biodegradable.
Forgot to add that usually, such drops, whether accidental or chucked, are only likely to happen at the start/end of a bundle for delivery. As such, it's hardly gonna be a trail of bands.
A postman where we live was recently prosecuted for littering when spotted by litter warden dropping a red band.
If they stuck them on their wrists the po would save a lot of money over the course of a year; bit like Bryant and May did now they only have one side of the match box you can use to strike a match

But lots of postmen also think it's ok to pee in the street so whats a few rubber bands?
You know why !! Royal Gov. that's why !
