Yahoo Mail Connection..?

I don't understand how this relatively new feature on Yahoo Mail works. On the Y! Mail Plus, they suggest contacts from my address book to invite to "connect." What actually happens? Do they receive an email stating that I want to "connect" with them, that they need to confirm? Can someone tell me the process that happens here?

Ehh it says I can't invite myself to connect... That idea seemed genius though!

open a new account with y and send yourself a mai to the old account
