Our cat is 3 and a half and he's a very odd little thing. He's really really not keen on being stroked, unless you tickle him behind the ears, but he LOVES kisses - and i mean full on, drooling, rubbing your face kisses! He particularly likes my husband's stubble and shouts very loudly at him if he comes in and doesn't give him a kiss/nuzzle straight away (ha ha!)

Its how he greets us both when he wakes up, when we get in from work, when he's hungry...rubs his face against us and purrs like a pneumatic drill....is this normal?

We love it as its super cute, but the thing is, in this weather he's malting which leaves fur all over your face - and i'll be honest, most house guests aren't so keen to give the boy a kiss!!

Plus sometimes with me (never my husband though), when he is mega purring and drooling all over the place he suddenly bites me and if i stop him he gets mega upset - but it HURTS!

not really a problem just wondered if its normal of if anyone knows why he's so kissy?!

Perfectly normal. The cat is marking you with his scent to show that you are his property.
It is very unusual for a cat to be MALTING

Malting is a process applied to cereal grains, in which the grains are made to germinate by soaking in water and are then quickly halted from germinating further by drying/heating with hot air. Thus, malting is a combination of two processes: the sprouting process and the kiln-drying process.

Most brewers are human !
Pagey, the last contributor was being a bit comical, but was trying to tell you that the word is - moulting. :-(
maybe its just his thing - my two ladies to it to show some love too - we call it bumping heads in our house. it is how cats scent mark but they do also do it as a sign of affection too and wild cats who live in social groups are seen doing exactly this sort of 'kissing' business you describe. we also get the mashing of toes (which is painful) and our youngest kitty often tries to get in bed with me or wake me up in the morning for food by licking my eyelid, stuffing her paws up my nose, farting (yes, farting!) on my head and sticking her cold dribbly nose in my eyeball. that's usually at five in the morning (and she has no concept of days off/lie-ins etc) and she frequently just shouts at us when she has something say (which is a lot!), like : turn the rain off, wake up, i'm back, what are you up to and general converstaion. i have never met such a weird cat in all my life and i thank my lucky stars the other one is relatively normal...x
Airborne (male) refuses to be picked up or cuddled, but likes being brushed with the sweeping brush.

Lucy loves to get into "daddy's study" and be cuddled....stroked yes, but not keen on the kissing....unlike "daddy" who is quite an expert........LOL

ha ha they are such funny creatures aren't they?
What's also weird about Max is that with my husband he nuzzles and nuzzles him until he's drooling everywhere purring SO loud, but with me it gets to a certain stage then he goes into 'play' mode - which mainly involves biting my nose or any other exposed skin very hard - it hurts!!

He loves the paw padding too and if we've been away for any amount of time when you pick him up for a cuddle he'll do it to my face and neck ahhhhh.

he's an indoor cat at the minute but we;ve just bought a flat with a garden - i hope he's still this loving when he has other cats andwildlife to play with too!
Are you sure you don't have my cat Raven? Little black female though, so possibly not : )

She loves to rub her face on my stubble and dribble across my face and glasses, paws either side of my neck, clawaing away. She also like to lick up my nostirls (horrible), and gently bit my nose and ears. She enjoys licking my head after I've shaved it with a bic.

She also loves me kissing her on the top and side of her head.

The other cat likes to lick my forearms and my shins - very odd
