Will this prove to be what is needed to bring this stupid war to an end?

Unlike Britain's softly softly approach the American's are hoping to do in hours what British troops have failed to do in three years.

The Taliban could be left with only three choices:

1/ To stand and fight the troops face to face, which is not the way of cowards that they really are.

2/ Try to flee over the border with Pakistan, which now that the Pakistan Army are losing their patience with the Taliban, may not be so easy as in the past.

3/ To disappear amongst the general populace.

This third option may be their best bet, so it is up to us to show caution and class them all the same, until they can prove otherwise.

Heard a senior American Commander on the radio today saying

"We've done a really bad job of setting expectations...people think we've got this great Army and we should be able to just go there and bring things under control in days....of course it's not like that"

I see what he meant
Given that this latest operation has only gotten underway in the last day or so, it's ever so slightly premature to be guessing what's going to happen?

We all piled into Iraq more than six years ago in what was widely expected to be done and dusted by Christmas (no offence to any Muslims), and, well, the rest, as they say, is history.
Class them all the same, AOG? I mean, please do elaborate.
There you go again, knocking the British and wrongly attributing failure where there is non.

You are forgetting that the British role was one of a Peacekeeping force, which it has largely been successful at but at a price.

It is too early to see if the Americans will be successful in engaging the Taleban, but as they are an ideologically driven enemy, for every one you kill, there will be ten more to replace them.
It interests me to see a Black US President (forget the white mother) beating up Asian Muslims in Afghanistan. How long before he is the new World No 1 Villain, and the Lefties have to revise their opinion of him?
whifffey

The Taleban do not have many friends in the muslim world. Most would support action against them. The old saying, My enemy's enemy is my friend" applies.

Obama will not get the blame for Afghanistan. He can only get credit if he is successful in cleaning up the previous administration's mess. He will only inherit the mantle World No.1 Villain if he follows the same course, and most indications are so far, that he won't.
They wont finish the job, that is impossible. Tehy may however bring it under control.

This area produces 90% of the worlds heroin, so it will be interesting to see what happens. There is more at stake here then killing a few rag heads

For the sake of the Lad who as always appears to be a little slow on the uptake.

Before I begin, hands up anyone else who cannot comprehend?

3/ To disappear amongst the general populace.

This third option may be their best bet, so it is up to us to show caution and class them all the same, until they can prove otherwise.

Here goes are you concentrating?

If the Taliban take the third option, they would be indistinguishable from the members of the general populace.

I will explain further, (take note) they would be wearing similar garb, that would be the general idea.

Now this is the tricky bit, if they looked the same and acted the same, then we would have to treat them the same.

Now here is the get out clause, until we found them to be just innocent villagers, these could be free to get on with their business of attending their flocks or whatever they do.

But if they were found to be Taliban members then they get their the just desserts that they deserve.

Wow it is hard work trying to get through to some.
I love the way whiffey glosses over the fact that Obama has a white mother. Hee hee. Get used to it, whiffey, for he's had her for the best part of 50 years.

And I'm sure you don't need reminding of what colour his father is? No, I thought not. Mr Griffin would be proud of you.

The thing is, I didn't get the analogy re "Black US President" and "Muslims" anyhow? Not trying to suggest that all Muslims are somehow meant to be black, are we, whiffey? Or that a black US President should be a Muslim? I'm confused.
The Taliban are taking out our soldiers one by one and on an increasing level. How can you fight against an invisible enemy whos only tactic is to lay roadside bombs? The elders of the tribes know who the Taliban are but they are reluctant to hand them over. That makes them a conspiracy to the evil deeds.

I can't see the point of rebuilding the country whilst the war is going on. Forget the bridge building and trying to win hearts and minds and treat all alike. The Yanks have the right idea!
Oh sorry, AOG. Is everything okay at home? You sound like something's upset you.

Don't have a go at Quinlad because you writing was sloppy.

it is up to us to show caution and class them all the same, until they can prove otherwise.

It was ambiguous whether you meant treat the population as terrorists until they can prove otherwise or vice versa. It would be helpful if you wrote more clearly in future.

Can someone please enlighten me as to why we are out there losing our brave soldiers? I still can`t understand the reason for this invasion.
There is a well known saying in Afghanistan.

"You come into Afghanistan with your own choice but you leave Afghanistan when Afghans let you leave"

When asked a Russian Army major about this he agreed and his words were.

"It took us less than ten minutes to enter Afganistan but it took us years to come out"

I hope american would learn something and accept the reality. And yes they should also stop earning royalty from the sale of Heroin.
The real problem here is, the Americans 'Don't do Peace'. They can, and probably will win the ground war, but its whatt you do afterwards that really counts.

I think Iraq is a typical example.

Gromit

It would seem it is only you and the Lad that has a problem.

It matters not which way you interpret it, the end result is the same.

But anyone with more than a couple of brain cells can reason that it was obvious that I meant. 'Before one can recognise who the real Taliban are, one should consider innocent Afghans as the Taliban also, until they are proven otherwise.

Before the 'Super Intelligent' Gromit criticises others for sloppy writing, perhaps he should first check his own scribble.

There you go again, knocking the British and wrongly attributing failure where there is non.

non should read none

Don't have a go at Quinlad because you writing was sloppy.

you writing should read your writing

These are only a couple from this post, I could have pulled you up on numerous other occasions, but hey! I am not that petty.
Interestingly the bomb that killed those 2 soldiers were in a vehicle costing 700,000. Supposing instead we started using drones to kill the enemy it would not only cost less, our soldiers would still be alive and the combatants would have likely been killed.
