Electric Radio, the taxpayer-funded radio station (by and for inmates) has won awards at the annual Sony Awards for the radio industry.

Should they even be allowed one?

The prison governor has admitted that it is a "Daily Mail story waiting to happen". But the Mail's coverage of the Sony Awards only mentions Electric Radio briefly at the very end of this report, preferring to comment on celebrities' dresses.

Is the Mail going soft?

I have no problem with a radio, its tv's and playstations I have a beef about.

I am sure the radio would also be welcome by the warders while they watch the inmates break rocks. (if only)
I think a prison radio station sounds like a good idea and could help to keep prisoners in line by giving them something over which they have some control and influence. If that makes things easier for the wardens, all well and good. It might also provide an opportunity for some inmates to view alternative careers to a life of crime.

I feel we should be providing training in trades as well, like bricklaying, plastering etc for prisoners, but I'm still of the opinion that some prisoners can be taught a new way to live.
And hopfully the prisoners won't use the radio to pass out coded messages to each other detailiing the next riot!
"And the next song is Breakout followed by The Saturdays"
a-v dont worry, they have mobile phones for that !
lol you're probably right!
