come to a point in your life where you wanted to be different from the crowd, where you wanted to stand apart?
Maybe you realised that you were heading in the wrong direction and changed your life completly and got out of a rut.
Have you fulfilled long standing ambitions late in life (got that book published, climbed that mountain, visited some far flung area of the globe, become an expert on something)
What sets the achievers apart from the sheeple who blindley allow others (family, the government, the status quo) to dictate the course of their lives?
Any stories...

Sometimes you go in the wrong direction but if you don't you might not find the right direction
My friend has reached that point in his life as he
is a heavy drinker and now has liver disease ,
and is yellow with jaundice , the Dr. gave him
12 months to live unless he quit the booze but he
has now given up , so hopefully his liver will repair
it's self .
I was fostered and then in a violent relationship for 5 years. I lived a good few years trying to succeed to prove others wrong and show them I didn't need them, I have a well paid job, a nice house etc.
Then I saw a guy get killed and die instantly. I remember standing in the middle of a dual carriageway realising that is how fast your life can be over. I'm now going to train to do what I want to do job wise, I've dealt with my past and am much happier. I have nothing to prove to anyone, your life is what you make it - it doesn't matter what other people think and point scoring doesn't make you happy deep down. Whenever I have a crappy day I try to remember that the guy who died would give anything to have one more day so I should enjoy it. I think sometimes it takes something major to happen to make you realise whats important
You know it's a funny thing there are an awful lot of people who are rebels against the status quo.

You know, those who say things like "No, Goverment's just trying to run your life, The EU is trying to take over everybody, Speed cameras are just a way of taxing us"

Maybe 90-95% of the people we meet are rebels like this.

Who really are those that stand apart?
My brother-in-law at the age of 58, decided to go for a divorce, left his half of the house to his son, literally walked out of the door with a suitcase and went to live in South America. What was so strange, my sister-in-law didn't have an inkling of what was going on but he'd made sure all her papers were upto date regarding her pension coming up at 60 and had visa all sorted out. I can tell you, this left the family devastated! Very eery...
Believing in yourself against the odds x
I reckon its just as simple as 'following your heart'...and doing what makes you happy......i went back to study as an adult to change careers...hard work ...but worthwhile!!
When I Whine

~~~~~~~
Today, upon a bus, I saw a girl with golden hair
I looked at her and sighed and wished I was as fair.
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and used a crutch
But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine
I have 2 legs, the world is mine.
~~
I stopped to buy some candy
The lad who sold it had such charm
I talked with him a while, he seemed so very glad
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 eyes, the world is mine.
Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child with eyes of blue
He stood and watched the others play
He did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join the others, dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
And then I knew, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 ears, the world is mine.
With feet to take me where I'd go.
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I would know.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed, The world is mine.
