I remember hearing in 1999 that some 'evangelical types' were claiming that the world would end in 2000. The mainstream churches made no such claim and I couldn't find any religious groups who said this. Who were they (if they existed at all)?

Not a single church on that list. Just individual fruitcakes. Some atheists at the turn of the millenia were saying 'Christians say the world would end in 2000. Didn't happen, therefore Christianity no longer has a leg to stand on'. I wondered about this. Anyway, thanks, naomi.
What about The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

I like this from Charles Schultz. 'Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia'.
