Whoops!! Posted in wrong topic should have been in travel!!!
Pompeii would be number 1. Herculaneum (another buried town) and Vesuvius itself - you can go up to the top. Plus the peninsula itself is very pretty, though a rather hair-raising drive to places like Amalfi. I've never been to Naples but people say it's fine, though you need to watch out for pickpockets.
Yes, the coastal Amalfi drive is spectacular, the locals drive with shall we say verve which is a bit hairy when you're trying not to look down. We went on a day trip to Rome, the catacombs are v interesting, although sadly nobody on the coach wanted to listen to the very interesting guide. The walk up Vesuvius is a thing that lots of tourists do, although if you're expecting pools of boiling lava you might be disappointed. Pompeii is very interesting. We found the hotel we stayed in insisted on serving 'British fare' ie chips with everything... hope you 'fare' better.
i agree with the first replies, and would also say that Capri is lovely to visit with regular boats leaving the harbour in sorrento.

Monte Casino is also an interesting place to visit.
