In the films most of them just have their Fathers with them. Only Sleeping Beauty is reunited with her mother in the film.

I expect in those days, their mother's all died in Childbirth.

I think that it is to add to the tragic story of the heroine, to show how the despair in their lives which is usually overcome when they meet their Prince Charming.

Just like real life......

i suppose it just reflects a bygone society where princesses were commodities to be bartered and palmed off to the prince, king, vassal who would provide the best links for climbing up the social and political ladder by their fathers and brothers.

disney introduced this nonsense of love and romance!! its just reminiscant of a time when men ruled.
I am so glad you think that as well, I was beginning to think it was me. I suppose it is to demonstrate the lovely qualities of the princess through their triumph over adversity; Snow White - dead mother, evil stepmother, Belle - mother dead? Cinderella mother dead, evil Stepmother. It's a pain when yoiu're trying to read to your own little princess and there's no mother figure in there, just fathers (my little princess's is a waste of space, I don't want to teach her to rely on him for anything).
