I don't do any exercise per se...but I do a very active job. I work as a waitress in a restaurant which is at the top of a lot of stairs. The job entails walking up and down these all day. I am on my feet and on the go most of the day.

Since starting this job I have lost a lot of weight (2.5 stone) and I am in the healthy range according to the BMI calculator

My question is does this count as exercise? I know that most health sites recommend 30 mins several times a week but I am not sure if what I do is enough??

I would say this counts as a good method of exercise, but eventually your body will adapt to this and your fitness level will no longer advance.

To improve fitness further, you would need to up the intensity, i.e run up the stairs. Your heartrate needs to reach a specific zone in order for you to get an adequate workout.

I will start running up the stairs...that is a daunting thought!! :)
I would say it does!!
I push wheelchairs all day and have lost about the same as you. I feel like I have been at the gym all day sometimes !!

I know what you mean lil! Most nights I fall into bed!

Funny thing is I love my job!! I am 31 and I have done admin/office jobs since I was 17. I fell into this job and I have never been happier!

Or thinner!! LOL
i swim a mile every day for my exercise
Same as me!!!
I was always struggling to keep my weight down before and even with slimming world I was always up and down.
I do think your body gets used to it though after a while and then we may have to up our activity a bit.

I went to London Zoo last week with my sister and my little niece. My sis was moaning all day about sore feet and being tired...I on the other hand felt as fresh as a daisy!!

Beaty...I would love to swim more but the swimming pool is miles away from me and I just don't get the time to go!!

lil i used to do voluntary work lifeguarding for the special school. i was hoping it would get me loads of experience saving people but didnt have to once.
a bit dissapointing really. i ended up just stood there all day watching them dribble and splash about.
I hate my job in the Gym. I'm so happy I'm now off on Maternity Leave for a year.
velvetee what do you do in the gym? when are you due now? I really love pregnant women. they are so hot!
Hmmm Beaty, my odd boyfriend likes pregnant women too, he won't leave me alone and I'm just knackered. I'm a Personal Trainer btw.

Velvetee, as a personal trainer can you give me some advice. I am disabled and housebound most of the time and have put on so much weight recently that I am really uncomfortable. How can a disabled person get some form of exercise. I should explain that I can not stand for long and walking I am limited to about 25 yards. Is there anything I can do? I would be very grateful for any advice.
It's a fantastic amount of exercise and you are doing very well indeed. I'd just watch out for your legs getting a bit swollen - maybe some light support socks or tiights might prevent the onset of this., especially if anyone in your family has had varicose veins.

I think I do have the start of varicose veins.......do support tights make much difference??

I have a nightmare buying tights as I am tall with long legs!!! I can only buy tights from Boots or online!!
