The battery goes to the body,which is your earth,everything else is fitted in such a way that they all go to the body. Lamps have a seperate lead that goes to the body quite close to the lamp cluster.

Thak you for that - my Vectra has several earth points listed in the manual so that's why I thought it strange that the Escort manual did not list them.

I'm surprised that Ford even show the battery on their diagrams,they are so poorly laid out.
