Why does Windows (XP) tell me that my AMD Sempron 2400+ CPU is running at 1.67 Ghz? Why is it not 2.4 Ghz? I know it is set up in the BIOS ok because on the boot up screen it says it is a 2400.

the 2400 isn't the clock speed; its the equivalent speed that it matches of an Intel processor (P4). So your 2400+ will run with performance equivalent to a P4 at 2.4Ghz but that's not neccessarily the clock speed of the AMD.

Performance isn't all about the clock speed. It also involves many other factors.
Yup, thats right - so much so that Intel themselves say the clock speed is now to unreliable to measure performance.

Thank you. Both of you.
I just know it's a lot faster that my PIII 600 used to be, but couldn't quite understand why it was supposed to be a 2400 and wasn't.
